Cummings thankful to be back home
This past weekend the University of Florida football staff picked up their 20th commitment for the Class of 2013 when Scooba (Miss) East Miss JUCO defensive tackle Darious Cummings flipped from Ole Miss to Florida while on official visit. In the end Cummings said he was blown away with what he saw in Gainesville, which was why, he wanted to be a part of the Gator Nation.
"Its was just all of the resources and opportunities that Florida has for their players and just the way they treat their players is what caught my attention," explained Cummings. "They put their players in the best situation possible to be successful and get their name out there to be better men beyond football and that just stuck out to me and my parents. It really set the bar high and blew me away.
"Nothing against Ole Miss it was a great place, but I only have two years left to play football and I want to be in the best situation for me to be at the next level and I just couldn't pass that up."
While in the swamp for Florida's 23-0 win over Jacksonville State, the 6-foot-1, 305-pound tackle kept a close eye on Florida's defense especially their defensive line.
"I thought they did very well, they need depth though," said Cummings. "After the game [Dominique] Easley and Shariff [Floyd] were telling me that they were really tired and needed some help and I feel like I can help them with that. The coaches said something too about Shariff maybe going into the draft just a little and expressed that he may go into the draft and I would have to come in and step up."
While on campus this past weekend, Cummings got a chance to see much more than just the game.
"We also took a tour around the school and went to the TV College and the media college and just academic things like that. It was really a full tour of the campus to get me acclimated to what a day in the life at Florida is like."
Cummings, who was originally a Rivals250 member out of Titusville (Fla.) back in 2010, signed with FSU out of high school before opting to go JUCO.
To be back home playing in the Sunshine State is huge according to Cummings.
"I'm just used to how things are in Florida and its something about being back home that I cant give up that opportunity and my mom really liked it that I was back in Florida, it put her at ease."
Speaking of his parents, Cummings father took a visit to UF earlier in the week before his sons official visit and according to the younger Cummings his father also thought very highly of UF.
"He said it was the most informative and the best tour he's ever taken and that he really loved it and learned a lot about the school that he did not know and wishes we would have taken a harder look at UF when I was in high school."
Cummings will graduate from East Miss at the end of the fall semester in December and will be enrolled for the coming spring semester at UF in January.
