Jan. 16-18 …

This weekend may be the most important recruiting weekend for the Deacs before National Signing Day, as they host uncommitted prospects Frisco (Texas) cornerback Cydney Calvin, Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough outside linebacker Nigel Harris, Santa Clarita (Calif.) Golden Valley outside linebacker Leon Jacobs and Gaffney (SC) defensive end Jaylen Miller along with Wake pledges Chambers, Gardner, [Josh] Harris, [Tyree] Harris, Helms, Lamot, O'Neil, Radford, Serigne and Stevenson.

The Galloway factor …

It was feared among the Black and Gold that Lonnie Galloway's return to West Virginia would have a negative impact on recruiting for Wake Forest. That remains to be seen regarding the recruitment of uncommitted prospects Miller and Orlando (Fla.) Freedom wide receiver Jeff Badet and possibly Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage School athlete Marcus Davis.

However, solidarity has been shown by all of the Wake commitments who Galloway recruited as they have stood firm with the Deacs following his departure.

Areas of need …

The Demon Deacons would like to get another wide receiver, a strong pass-rusher, linebacker and/or defensive back.

Miller would be an exclamation point to Wake Forest's highest rated recruiting class during the Jim Grobe head-coaching era. Ray McCartney will be everything in his arsenal but the kitchen sink over the next 21 days to snag the 6-foot-2 and 255-pound Palmetto State product.

Tim Duffie and McCartney are also in hot pursuit of Davis, who is down to Wake and WVU.

Calvin, Jacobs and Gainesville (Fla.) inside linebacker Keith Kelsey Jr. would also be nice additions.

Badet lists Wake in his top three with Kentucky and NC State, but it will be difficult for the Demon Deacons to overcome the Wildcats and Wolfpack without Galloway.
